Privacy Policy

ShelfCentered ("we," "our," "the app") helps you track your kitchen inventory, find recipes, and reduce food waste. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Account information: your email address and password, used to create and secure your account. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
Photos you choose to take: images of your fridge, pantry, freezer, or grocery receipts, submitted when you use the scanning features. These are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to identify items and are not stored by us longer than needed to process your request.
Barcode data: when you scan a product barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, a free public product database, to look up product details.
Inventory and recipe data you enter or approve: item names, quantities, expiration dates, recipes you save or upload, and your grocery list. This is stored securely in our database and is only accessible to your account.
Notification scheduling: if you enable reminders, we schedule local notifications on your device for items nearing expiration. This happens on your device and is not sent to a server.

How we use this information

We use your information solely to provide the app's features: identifying food in photos, suggesting recipes, tracking your inventory, and reminding you before food expires. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third-party services we use

Supabase — hosts our database and handles account authentication.
Anthropic (Claude API) — processes photos and text you submit to power the app's AI features.
Open Food Facts — provides product lookups for barcode scanning.

Each of these services has its own privacy practices governing how they handle data passed to them.

Your choices

You can review, edit, or delete any inventory item, recipe, or grocery list entry at any time within the app.
You can disable notifications at any time in your device's system settings.
To request deletion of your account and associated data, email us at privacy@shelfcentered.me. We will delete your account and data within 30 days of a verified request.

Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your inventory, recipes, and personal information are permanently removed from our systems.

Children's privacy

ShelfCentered is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page.
